The Z-Rex acts as the final boss in Shattered Veil for those brave enough to complete the main easter egg, but the boss fight is no joke. This zombified skeletal remains of a Tyrannosaurus Rex is going to challenge players with its set of attacks and overwhelming army of undead, so players might need a few tips to beat it in Black Ops 6 Zombies.

The Z-Rex bites, lunging, and even eats players in Black Ops 6 Zombies, so it's going to be essential that players know all of its attacks, how to counter them, and how they can deal the most efficient damage with the best Z-Rex loadout so that they can survive to see the next Black Ops 6 Zombies map.

Before players even think about entering the boss fight against the Z-Rex, they are going to want to make sure that they're bringing in the best loadout possible. This means knowing what to bring in terms of weapons, perks, field upgrades, scorestreaks, and even gobblegums. To start, let's talk about weapons.

Ray Gun Mark 2-W

For the primary weapon, players should always use the Ray Gun Mark 2, and they are always going to want to have the Pack-a-Punch Tier 3 upgrade due to its incredible damage output against the Z-Rex and other zombies that spawn. While the Ray Gun Mark 2 has three upgrade variants, it's advised to take the Ray Gun Mark 2-W found in the Supply Depot for its wraithfire ammo type and the fact that it has the most ammo and fires fully automatic shots. The Ray Gun Mark 2-W will be the main weapon used to kill the Z-Rex, so for a secondary, bring what feels comfortable. For clearing out zombies, it could be a good idea to use the dual-wielded Sally & Forth from the Pack-a-Punched GS45s, or even a Wunderwaffe DG-2 for how it can stop and instantly kill zombies hit by it.

The next most important aspect for fighting the Z-Rex is the Field Upgrade. Players will want to use Aether Shroud, as this provides a lengthy amount of time where the Z-Rex and the zombies will ignore players once activated, thus providing players time to heal themselves and shoot the Z-Rex. It's essential to use the Minor Augment, Extra Charge, as it allows players to have 2 uses before needing to charge them up again. The Major Augment doesn't matter too much, but Burst Dash is good for solo players as it allows them to dash forward, but Group Shroud is also good as it cloaks nearby allies.

Before entering the boss fight, players will also want to bring in a Scorestreak, but not just any of them. The best Scorestreak to use against the Z-Rex is the Chopper Gunner, and this can be purchased from any Crafting Table for 2,500 Salvage once they reach Level 45. Alternatively, it can be earned randomly through killing the Elder Disciples. With leftover Salvage, feel free to purchase Stims (250 Salvage at Level 30) for rapid surges of healing or Cymbal Monkeys (1,000 Salvage at Level 18) to distract zombies, but the Z-Rex isn't interested in the Cymbal Monkey.

The Z-Rex has four phases, and each phase will introduce a new method of attacking players. As such, we thought it best to give useful tips phase-by-phase so players know what to expect when they deal enough damage.

Richtofen will provide support during the boss fight, often throwing ammo, armor plates, and even Self-Revive Kits into the arena.

Z-Rex Phase One

In the first phase of the Z-Rex, the great monster stomps around the open arena. To fight the Z-Rex, players are going to want to move between the large rocks so that the Z-Rex has a harder time turning, which slows it down. Players will also want to keep an eye out for its stomach, as Toxic Zombies will often be eaten by the Z-Rex and will remain inside its ribs for players to shoot. Shooting the Toxic Zombies within the Z-Rex's ribs will do the most damage, as it's a powerful critical hit each time. If the Z-Rex hasn't consumed any zombies, shoot its glowing eyes for other critical hits. Once the players deal around 25% of damage, the Z-Rex will jump out of the arena, and players will be forced to kill a wave of zombies. Simply horde them up and shoot them when they're at a decent distance, and try to get headshots for the extra essence so you can spend it on ammo from the Ammo Resupply crates in the arena.

Z-Rex Phase Two

The second phase of the Z-Rex boss fight plays a lot like the first, except the Z-Rex can now do a jump attack where it lands on players. It's hard to predict when the Z-Rex is going to jump without looking right at it, so just try to maintain distance at all times and avoid the green pools of gas on the floor, as they will deal damage and slow players down. If players are caught in the green gas, use an Aether Shroud to avoid the Z-Rex catching up and continue to damage it with the Ray Gun Mark 2-W. At around 50% HP, the Z-Rex will once again jump out of the arena, and players will be able to fight normal zombies to build essence to purchase ammo.

Z-Rex Phase Three

The third phase is where the challenge kicks up a notch, as the Z-Rex will be more aggressive in its pursuit of players. The arena will also be filled with more gas puddles to slow players down, so try to avoid them and clear a path with the Ray Gun Mark 2-W so that players can outrun the Z-Rex. In this phase, distance to the Z-Rex is key, and if it starts charging, slide between the large rocks to slow it down. This phase ends when the Z-Rex has around 25% of its health left.

Z-Rex Phase Four

The fourth phase is the Z-Rex at its most deadly, and as such, players must always be on the move so that they can run away from its attacks and unrelenting bites. The Z-Rex will constantly charge at players trying to bite them, which deals a lot of damage. As such, use an Aether Shroud when it gets too close, and try to save the Chopper Gunner for the fourth and final phase, as the Chopper Gunner will absolutely decimate the remaining health of the Z-Rex, especially if players keep continuous fire on its glowing eyes. If players do go into the downed state in phase four, try and hold off from using the Self-Revive Kit and instead shoot the Z-Rex to deal as much damage as possible before reviving.
